Lucca
from Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger is my all-time favorite game, and since the first time I played it I've just had this soft spot for inventor girls in any game or anime. ^^ Of course, I like the brainiac inventor guys a whole lot too, but there are considerably few of them in anime, and for some reason the girls' inventions seem to explode slightly less often. Just slightly. ^_~
Lucca has a very strange and unique costume, because it mixes very tech-heavy props with a modern-day boy scout/pilot's outfit and just a hint of the medieval-fantasy style. Her overcoat gives the hint that perhaps it was once a simple dress, now turned into something much more stylish. To some extent, I like that weirdness, not to mention that their tomboyish-ness makes it a lot more appropriate even though it's technically "cross-dressing." And besides, those props would be really fun to carry around. "^_^"
Anyway, I was originally considering Precis from Star Ocean: The Second Story as a second "Inventor Girl" possibility, but I've dropped that idea for several reasons. First of all, Lucca is probably my favorite RPG character of all time. ^_^ Secondly, I don't have long hair. ;P Thirdly, Lucca's costume is obviously much simpler.
So anyway, for Lucca's orange dress/tunic/overcoat, I'd probably be able to find a pattern close enough somewhere. Most of the other clothing can be bought or found lying around: loose green shirt, orange bandana, biker shorts, green socks, and various pouches/straps. I've been looking for boot-like shoes for years, though... >_<
A lot of the work would be finding the props. She has her funky little raygun-like "Wondershot", pop-bottle lens glasses, a mallet, and hardest of all: that crazy headset-helmet. ^_^;; That would require a lot of some innovation. However, I have already decided that two of them will be represented by an orange Super Soaker and a croquet mallet. Hurray for peace-bondage! ;D

I also encourage anyone who likes Star Ocean and/or anime inventors to consider going as Precis. If you're going with me and would like to do a theme (which would make me very happy), I'd be more than willing to help you with this costume!... (for what it's worth, anyway) |
